I’m starting to think that maybe I don’t know a lot of things. Today I discovered that Lorem Ipsum isn’t just fake Latin. It’s taken from Cicero’s De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum (on the ends of good and evil), from 45 BC. Guess I’m not sure why, but I can’t help but feeling like I should have already known this.
The phrase that Lorem Ipsum’s first line comes from translates into something like: Nobody seeks pain just because it’s pain, but because pain can sometimes bring pleasure.
OK, then.
Fake Latin that’s not actually fake: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
Cicero: Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit, sed quia non numquam eius modi tempora incidunt ut labore et dolore magnam aliquam quaerat voluptatem.)
